The Ibero-American Federation of Catalysis Societies (FISOCAT) brings together the National Catalysis Societies of Ibero-American countries.
The Catalysis Societies of various Ibero-American countries began in 1968 to organize a biennial Ibero-American Catalysis Symposium (SICAT), the first of which took place in Madrid, Spain. In this way, in 1998 the XVI SICAT was organized in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. During the course of this Symposium, the representatives of the National Societies decided to create FISOCAT with the idea of "continuing the joint activities carried out up to now and stimulating all those others of a multinational nature aimed at highlighting the important role of Catalysis as matter of scientific and technical research.
FISOCAT was formally established in 1999 based on the Statutes approved by the General Assembly, electing its first authorities. One of its objectives is to organize every two years the Ibero-American Congress on Catalysis, hereinafter called CICAT.
