During the 20th century, Acid-Base Catalysis played a role in the development of improved oil refining and petrochemical processes. Today, with the climate changes the world is experiencing, Acid Base Catalysis will continue to play an important role, helping the development of more sustainable processes relying on biomass and CO2 processing.

The International Symposia on Acid-Base Catalysis occurs each four years in a different country. The ABC-8 will take place in Brazil, gathering the scientific and industrial community to discuss the advances in the area andforecasts the pathway of Acid-Base Catalysis towards a more sustainable world.
